April 2010 – the year kicks off in earnest!

April 29th, 2010

April 2010 saw the year of events really hotting up for Best Intent. Our first event of the month was a fantastic wedding, held at Harmony House in Melrose, for a couple who had flown in all the way from Hong Kong! The bride was Australian, however the groom was originally from Melrose so the town got a welcome influx of Australians just in time for the Melrose Sevens. Despite it being springtime, the couple enjoyed a sunny wedding in Melrose Abbey and drinks outside Harmony House, before going in to a Best Intent traditional poled marquee for the meal, deliciously catered for by Gill Orde.

The bride had organised the decoration of the marquee in a monochrome theme, and there was a small smoking tent outside, with Hong Kong inspired decor including Chinese lanterns and tall poseur tables with long red cloths. Even the luxury loo unit supplied by Bordaloo was fitted with the monochrome theme, as they provided their unique luxury loo unit with the black and white striped interior and old photos of hollywood starlets.

Harmony House is one of our preferred venues and offers a beautiful, tranquil garden setting in the middle of the picturesque and historical town of Melrose. The Borders Book Festival, which Best Intent also supply marquees and furniture for, takes place there in June every year.

From weddings to the rugby event of the year, April also saw us erecting marquees for the Melrose Sevens at Melrose RFC, The George and Abbotsford Hotel in Melrose, The Kings Arms Hotel in Melrose, Richie’s Gray’s ‘The Bar’, and Vantage Events. It was a fantastic weekend of sport, food and wine, which culminated in an exciting final between Jo’burg university and Hamilton (who won). It is a real highlight of the year in Melrose, and we were delighted to be involved to such a large extent.

Later that month we also supplied corporate marquees to Musselburgh Races and the Chris Hoy Half Marathon, which was also held at Musselburgh Racecourse.
